On Mon and Tue, i was at RSS doing some facilitating for the prefects camp. The prefects are all from the pri 4 cohord. Our camp is to make the prefects a better person by instilling in them the values of being a good leader. How did it go, I must say, Praise Lord! It was another successful session.
It was my first time facilitating RSS. So, i didn't know abt the culture of tht sch. FYI, it's a buddhist sch. When we first entered the entrance of the sch, we met a few challenges. First was the parking problem. We were also not allowed to walk ard the sch on our own. So, we had this Mr (something), i've forgotten his name, to escort us ard. I felt like a prisoner, so weird! Then, we started joking, saying 'Hey, u cannot go to the toilet. U need permission and a teacher to bring u there...' and stuffs like tht...lolx. There are too many restrictions and rules. Just like the religion, buddhism itself. Just to clarify, i'm not insulting or making fun of buddhism. I'm only trying to bring out to u the system of the sch. I'm sorry if any buddhist felt offended.
My previous projects are in Ai Tong School. The prefects in RSS have not gone through any trainings before. But i must say, they are comparble to Aitong School. Just tht ATS is more disciplined. Students in RSS are very responsive and participating. The group tht i've taken is the most challenging i've ever had. But, they are a lovable lot of children! They behaved like a real child, very authentic.
On the first day, my group felt so inferior compared to other grps cos they were the last in games. Their morale was really low. They even kept saying negative words like 'we sure lose one la..' etc. But, on the second day, especially at the last part, things got changed for the better. we had this egg challenge. My group built someting like a raft, to cushion two eggs when they were dropped from one storey high. What we had built looked the most awful of all. It's just weaving the straws together. It was even being commented as 'the prata with eggs' haha.. BUT, our eggs landed the most gracefully! Thanks to the big surface area! The eggs landed safely on the ground! Who would think something so ugly could turn out to be the most graceful? My group was thrilled. However, they also didn 'hao lian' saying 'ours is the best, others so lousy!' I could even say, i really admire them! So, God is fair! They started off badly but ended off well! At least, their confidence is restored. Cheerios to them!
The delivery was good. The use of 'The Incredibles' special effects disc was too appropriate and the children just loved watching it! We should give credits to Alvin for able to always come up with these stuffs. Haahha..
We ended the whole thing with a toast. There are champanges. The children were soooo excited that they couldn't stand still! After tht is the ususal, saying the prefects pledge. It was an enjoyable experience agian, i must say. I'm looking forward to next week's projects with the pri 5 kids!
